JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - The Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus hosted a town hall meeting on Monday at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson and announced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States.

State Rep. Justis Gibbs (D-District 72) said Harris has been a terrific vice president.

“She's made sure to go to the local colleges and universities, not the ones that you see at the top of the AP list of most prestigious college universities. She's touching Americans both in rural and urban places in this country, and we must get behind her," he said.

Harris also received support from some Jackson voters after President Joe Biden decided to withdraw from the race.

“The fact that he can't run to be able to endorse the vice president, you know, being a woman of color, I'm happy to know that I'll be able to vote in this in this election for the first woman and woman of color to be the president of the United States," said Abena Suma, a voter.

State Rep. Chris Bell (D-District 65), chairman of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus, said the caucus is in full support of the Democratic party endorsing Harris as the nominee.
