PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) - Families who have loved ones buried at a Pearl cemetery are upset.
On Thursday, people had to go through a trailer bed of bagged and labeled flower arrangements, flags, solar lights and memorabilia that was removed from their loved ones' gravesites at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Management at the cemetery said signs have been posted for years about only using the vase provided on the tombstone for flowers, so that during mowing season, the grass can be cut close to each burial plot.
“Today is the date of my daddy's death, and I had to come up here and get stuff off my daddy's grave and dig it out of a trailer," said Shelby Puderer.
Jackie Messer has been coming to the cemetery for almost a year, and she was not pleased to find the items in a trailer.
“It’s just disrespectful. I mean, it's just bad. Just brings all that hurt back. So, it's just... I mean, this is a place where you're supposed to feel comfortable, and you don't feel comfortable," Messer said.
“They can call me or and let me know, come up here and get it. I would gladly come up here and get it. I wouldn't be happy about it, but I would come get it," said Puderer.
Messer said she did not know the signs were out.
“I'd never seen it. Didn't know it was there, or we would not have put a solar light out, and we wouldn't have done anything," she said.
