JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - Thalia Mara Hall is a nationally known venue that brings in large productions to the City of Jackson. If it doesn't reopen, citizens are concerned the state of Mississippi won't see those shows again.

“We can't just keep losing things because things aren't going to keep coming here the way things are leaving here," said Patrick Thomas, a Jackson resident.

“It's just a shame that that big, expensive building is gone to waste up there with all that mold and stuff growing in it," said another resident.

Leaders with the city announced this week that improvements to the facility could come sooner than expected.

In early August, the city was forced to close Thalia Mara Hall after “early microbial activity” was discovered following a recent malfunction with the HVAC controller in the facility.

According to the report by the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO), mold was found in the facility, and human waste was found on the balcony. The report also found that some fire extinguishers were not up to date. The city submitted an action plan to fix the issues found in the report.
