JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - The doors to Thalia Mara Hall remain closed, but Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba said a solution could be on the way.
The mayor said the city received $1.5 million from the Mississippi Legislature, which will be used for repairs.
In early August, the city was forced to close the facility after “early microbial activity” was discovered following a recent malfunction with the HVAC controller in the facility.
"I think everybody should be okay with saying we found some mold at Thalia Mara Hall. The reports conclude it's not toxic mold. It's not black mold. It's none of that. It's just the kind that you get when stuff is too wet for too long," said Mike Williams, deputy director of Human and Cultural Services for the City of Jackson.
Williams said it could take anywhere from four to eight weeks to fix the issues at Thalia Mara Hall, but he did not provide an exact date.
Lumumba said there will be a tab on the city's website on Thursday, September 12 where citizens can find updates on the repairs to the facility.
