CLINTON, Miss. (WJTV) - Witnesses in Clinton recounted the moment a train and a UPS truck collided.
The crash happened on Tuesday, July 30 near Clinton Boulevard.
“I knew a vehicle had been hit. We wasn't for sure what kind of vehicle, and you could hear the screeching noise from the train trying to stop it. Now we understand why, you know, it was so loud because how far drove the car, the truck," said Lakesharne Smith, a witness.
Smith said she was outside with her husband and their grandson in the backyard of their home at the time of the collision.
Larry Hardin, who also lives nearby, saw the aftermath of the crash.
“I saw the train slowing down, and I saw the smoke in the air, and I said, 'If the train stops, that means he hit something,'” he said.
Hardin said he rode down the street to check on the UPS driver.
“I saw the young guy sitting in the truck and I said, 'Thank God, he's still alive,'" he said.
WJTV 12 News reached out to UPS about the crash. Officials said, “We’re grateful the driver is okay and can confirm they had non-life-threating injuries.”
