JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - A suspect was killed during an officer-involved shooting in Jackson.
The incident happened near McCain Avenue and Dixon Road on Thursday, May 30.
According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, an officer responded to a call at the location. When the officer arrived at the location, the suspect tried to open the officer's patrol car, but the officer was able to fight off the suspect.
Wade said the officer tased the suspect, but it had no effect. He said the suspect retreated into a wooded area, and the officer called for backup.
When the suspect exited the woods and approached the officers, Wade said the suspect had a knife-like object and lunged at police. Officers attempted to tase the suspect again.
The police chief said one of the officers shot and killed the suspect.
Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will investigate the officer-involved shooting. They will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General's Office.
