RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) - Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee is excited about economic development that's taking place in the city.

McGee said the city has a growing economy and the retail market is adding plenty of jobs. He said the city is seeing young people making a good living by working in retail and hospitality.

“They're busy. The clientele is paying good tips and, of course, their good salaries. So, yeah, we're seeing a lot of growth, and then of course, you have also a number of those that are in college that are doing part time jobs," the mayor said.

Derrick Everett, who's looking for a part time summer job, said, "It's a bunch of opportunities out here for young people like myself that are looking for part time jobs. So, it's been... it's been a great experience to learn how the job market works.”

Most of the businesses Everett has spoken with are hiring, and he believes there's plenty of opportunities available.

McGee said restaurants are also providing a great number of jobs in Ridgeland.
