RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) - The owner of a well-known restaurant in the Jackson area voluntarily closed the business after it failed a recent health inspection.

The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) gave Cock of the Walk in Ridgeland a "C" rating on Tuesday, June 18.

According to MSDH, an inspector observed some rodent droppings in dry storage areas, along with employees standing in waste water in the kitchen.

The inspector also found food containers without lids. Officials said food contact surfaces throughout the facility were not cleaned or sanitized.

Greg Flynn, spokesman for MSDH, said the last time there was a documented infestation for the restaurant was in January 2012 due to cockroaches.

The owner has 10 days to correct the health violations that were found in Cock of the Walk.
