JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - The wife of Dau Mabil and her family provided an update on the ongoing investigation about her husband's death.

Karissa Bowley and her older brother, Spencer, said after speaking with Capitol police on Friday, June 14, they're still waiting on the full autopsy report.

“I believe it's toxicology that we're waiting on. It's unfortunate, but that is just sort of where we are is, is in the waiting pattern with that. And then once they're able to get that back, then they'll release you know, they'll release the results of their investigation, and they'll allow the body to be released so that we can then go on with, you know, with a second autopsy," said Spencer.

Karissa's family said they reached out to Mabil's brother and his attorney, Lisa Ross, who are planning to pursue an independent autopsy.

“They haven't gotten back with us yet regarding who this person actually is, so we haven't really been able to to confirm whether they meet the qualifications," Spencer stated.

Mabil disappeared from his Belhaven neighborhood in March 2024. His body was found in the Pearl River in Lawrence County on April 13, 2024.

“He is special. He was special before he ever married me. I'm just here, like, missing him, and I'm just here to miss him," said Karissa.

Mabil's other family members and community members plan to hold a news conference on Saturday, June 15. There will also be a prayer vigil on the Museum Trail at 12:00 p.m.
