MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) - The three-acre waterfront greenspace in the Town of Lost Rabbit will remain a greenspace for now.
The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District (PRVWSD) Shoreline Development Committee voted to keep the land as a greenspace on March 20. Before the vote took place inside the Timberlake Campgrounds meeting room, developer Terry Lovelace of MCAS appeals the committee's decision.
According to a recent master plan by developers, the space is considered Shoreline Park. Lovelace plans to build four single-family homes on the land.
Lost Rabbit residents said they use the greenspace as a park and have done so for years.
“This is really important to the neighborhood, and I think it really will change a lot. It could affect our our values of our homes, and it also will affect where our kids can play," said Laurel Guy, a resident of Lost Rabbit and the wife of WJTV 12 News President and General Manager Jeff Guy.
“This is the last little piece of land that he owns, and we believe that he sees the value of selling it and is simply just trying to make money off this greenspace," said Donna Taylor, a Lost Rabbit resident.
Lost Rabbit residents said they would not be surprised if Lovelace files a lawsuit over the land. WJTV 12 News attempted to interview the developer's attorney, but he refused to comment.
