JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - Drivers may notice a change in lighting the next time they drive on Interstate 220 in Jackson.

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) said crews are replacing halogen bulbs with LEDs.

Michael Flood, public information officer for MDOT, said LED bulbs are cheaper to maintain and replace. The bulbs are expected to last longer.

“It'll make our I-220 brighter. And we're also going to be eventually doing this as well to I-20 and parts of I-55 here in Jackson. This is a big need. You know, I know everyone in Jackson and outside of Jackson, anybody who travels our interstates, we want our interstates to be lit up," said Flood.

The project on I-220 is expected to be complete in the coming days.
