JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - Murrah High School dismissed early on Tuesday, January 7 due to an "unexpected heating system failure."

Leaders with the Jackson Public School District (JPS) said students and staff were dismissed at 9:30 a.m., and school was shifted to virtual learning for the remainder of the school day.

Lunch will be available for pickup between noon and 2:00 p.m. at Murrah High School or the nearest school location.

Our JPS maintenance team is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore a comfortable learning environment as soon as possible.

We understand the impact this may have on our families, and we appreciate their patience and flexibility as we work to restore adequate heat to the building.

Sherwin Johnson, Executive Director of Public Engagement for JPS
